Consultation & analysis

• Walk me through a full consultation from the moment the client sits down.
• How do you read the natural base and estimate % white — where do people go wrong?
• How do skin tone and eye colour change your shade choice?
• What in a hair history would stop you colouring today?
• Talk me through the allergen alert test — timing, what a reaction looks like, what you'd do.

Theory & formulation

• Base 6, ~50% white, wants a warm 7 — full formula and developer? Why?
• Underlying pigment at 7 vs at 9 — how does it change your toner?
• Neutralising unwanted warmth — which tones, and how far round the wheel?
• When do you drop from 30 to 20 or 10 vol, and why?
• Permanent vs demi vs gloss — give me a client for each.
• High-lift tint vs bleach — when does high-lift stop being enough?

Application & greys

• Regrowth without banding or overlap — your exact method.
• First-time virgin head — order of application and why.
• Resistant grey — how do you get full coverage and make it last?
• When would you pre-pigment or pre-soften?

Highlights, freehand & lightening

• Full-head foil map — sectioning, start point, weave vs slice.
• How do you keep foils clean and saturated at speed? Current timing?
• Balayage — placement, and how you control saturation and the melt.
• On-scalp bleach — how do you keep it safe and even?

Toning & finishing

• Post-lightening — how do you choose toner + developer and check as it processes?
• How do you cross-check grey coverage before the client leaves?
• What home-care would you recommend, and why?

Correction (foundational)

• Going darker over lightened ends — how do you stop it going flat / green?
• Removing unwanted build-up or box-dye — where do you start?
• Evening out banding — your approach.

Independence — the FSO question

• What do you already do with no one checking? Where does your manager still step in?
• Talk me through a service that went wrong and how you fixed it.

Set pre-learning & support

• Assign prep: revise ICC / pigment / toning / weave on a block / bring formulations for ___.
• Book a model matching the priority gap; hand-off: “[supervisor] supports you on ___, send me evidence.”
• Logistics: dates 7/8, 14/15, 21/22, 28/29 · day off · no two from one salon same day · model paid & allergen-tested 3 days before.
